Newborn Care
Welcoming a new baby is an exciting and emotional time, and we’re here to support you from the very beginning. Led by Dr. Rashida Saif, Farrington Pediatrics provides gentle, attentive newborn care with a focus on feeding, growth, newborn health, and parent reassurance.

Why Early Newborn Visits Matter
Newborn visits help us make sure your baby is feeding well, gaining weight appropriately, and adjusting safely at home — and they give you a dedicated space to ask questions during your baby’s first weeks.
During these early visits, we monitor growth and feeding patterns, screen for jaundice and other newborn conditions, offer guidance on safe sleep and soothing, and provide reassurance and education as you settle into new routines. These visits also help your family transition into our ongoing schedule of Well Child Exams
A Message for Parents-to-Be
Complementary Prenatal Visits
Welcoming a new baby is a beautiful journey—and we’d love to be part of it from the very beginning. Schedule a complimentary prenatal visit before your delivery to tour our office, meet our team, and ask any questions you may have.

When Should My Newborn Be Seen?
Your baby’s first pediatric visit usually takes place within a few days of hospital discharge, often between 3–5 days of age. This early visit allows us to check feeding, weight gain, jaundice, and overall adjustment at home.
Follow-up visits are scheduled based on your baby’s individual needs, including weight and feeding progress and jaundice monitoring. From there, your child continues care through our routine well-child visit schedule.
What to Expect at a Newborn Visit
Our approach to newborn care is calm, thorough, and supportive, with time to focus on your family’s priorities and your baby’s early adjustment at home.
During your baby’s visit, we review feeding and diaper patterns, growth and jaundice, newborn sleep and soothing, and what to expect in the weeks ahead. If your baby becomes ill between visits, please see our Same-Day Sick Visits & After-Hours Support page for guidance.
What to Bring to Your Newborn Visit
To help us provide the best care, please bring:
- Hospital discharge paperwork (if available)
- Insurance card and photo ID
- Feeding or diaper notes (optional)
- Any medications or supplements
- Questions you’d like to discuss
New families can find forms and helpful details on our New Patients page
Newborn Care Guidance
During your baby’s first visits, we commonly talk through:
Feeding & weight gain — what is typical and when to follow up
Wet diapers & stooling — signs your baby is feeding well
Safe sleep — always on the back, on a firm sleep surface
Soothing & fussiness — what’s normal and when to reach out
Recommendations are personalized to your baby and family — and reinforced during ongoing Well Child Exams
